We are looking for a practical, capable Development Engineer to join our team in a hands-on engineering role focused on product development, technical problem solving, and prototype design. This is not an assembly role. It is suited to someone who enjoys turning ideas into working solutions across electrical, PCB, mechanical, and prototype development.
You will work on the design, development, testing, and refinement of products and systems, supporting projects from concept through to validation. The role combines electrical design, PCB layout, mechanical design, rapid prototyping, and system integration, with a strong focus on solving real engineering problems.
Main Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical systems, schematics, and PCB layouts using KiCad, OrCAD, and Allegro
- Produce, review, and update PCB designs for new and existing products
- Support circuit development, component selection, design reviews, and validation testing
- Create mechanical parts, brackets, housings, and prototype assemblies
- Produce 3D CAD models, drawings, and development-ready design files
- Use 3D printing and laser cutting to create prototypes, test parts, and fixtures
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical, mechanical, and system-level technical issues
- Carry out structured fault finding, root cause analysis, and design improvement work
- Support integration of hardware, electronics, and communications systems
- Maintain clear engineering documentation including schematics, drawings, BOMs, and test records
- Contribute to product improvement, development testing, and engineering problem solving across a range of projects
Required Skills and Experience
- Experience in a development engineer, electronics engineer, or product development role
- Strong practical engineering and problem-solving ability
- Experience in electrical design and PCB layout
- Experience using KiCad, OrCAD, and Allegro
- Experience in mechanical design / 3D CAD
- Experience with 3D printing and laser cutting
- Good understanding of integrated electrical and mechanical systems
- Ability to test, diagnose, and improve product designs
- Good engineering documentation and organisational skills
- Hands-on approach with the ability to move from concept to prototype and testing
Desirable Skills
- Experience with ArduPilot and Pixhawk based systems
- Experience with networking setup, including both hardware and software configuration
- Understanding of low-level communication protocols such as Serial / UART, I2C, and SPI
- Experience with embedded systems, sensors, telemetry, or control systems
- Familiarity with design for manufacture and design for assembly
- Experience working in a fast-paced development environment
About the Role
This role would suit an engineer who enjoys designing, building, testing, and improving products, and who is comfortable working across multiple engineering disciplines. You should be confident developing practical solutions, producing prototypes, and solving technical issues in a structured and hands-on way.
