CDDT Level 1 is a 5 week online course that is divided into 2 modules as follows:
- Data module- The first 3 weeks cover data analysis; GIS fundamentals, data types & co-ordinate systems, multispectral sensing, introduction to computer vision and machine learning, advanced spatial analysis methods, data ethics etc. Different mapping applications e.g. agriculture, disease control, emergency response, flood modeling, infrastructure management etc.
- Drone module- In the 4th & 5th week, students are introduced to unmanned aerial systems; flight physics, aircraft performance, propulsion systems, aerostructures, payloads, flight operations, wireless communications etc. will also be covered
In addition to the 2 main modules, students also participate in an entrepreneurship / innovation workshop that equips them with knowledge to start their own businesses in the drone & data industry.
CDDT Level 1 graduates receive:
- CDDT Level 1 Certificate issued by Virginia Tech, Furman University & Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST)
- Trusted Operator Program (TOP) Level 1 Certificate issued by AUVSI
Note that ADDA is currently the only TOP training provider outside the USA
Applications for the next CDDT 1 cohort (cohort 7) are now open. Applications are open to citizens of African countries (preferably between 18-24). Cohort 7 is tentatively scheduled to run from 16th August – 17th Septermber, 2021. Application deadline is Friday, 30th July, 2021, 17:00 CAT. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
